Atleast 10 structures at Krofrom Market have been raised down by fire with the cause yet unknown. The shacks that served as homes for residents and also as shops were destroyed, but no casualties were recorded after the accident.
Speaking to sources, the Manhyia Division Fire Officer, DO1 Abban, disclosed that a distress call was received around 2:00 am on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, proceeding to the market to put out the fire.
The officer further explained that although there have not been any casualties, millions of cedis were lost. He told the source, “the shacks are built anyhow and accessibility within the structure is very difficult”.
Describing the incident further, the Manyhia Fire Station arrived at the scene only to realize that one fire engine was not enough to put out the fire and had to call for another engine to support.
Hence, the Tech Fire Station was called upon to assist in putting out the fire that had already taken down 10 structures to ashes.
Property worth thousands of cedis were destroyed by the fire, the fire station reported.
Meanwhile, the Fire Service is conducting investigations into the cause of the fire and it is said that an update would be delivered to the general public in due time.
