A teenager and another man have been pronounced dead in the Odododiodoo constituency after a shooting incident that occurred on election night.
Kweku Temeng who reported the incident confirmed that the two including a 17-year-old girl lost their lives after sustaining gunshot wounds Monday night after an incident in the constituency.
The incident led to the arrest of the incumbent Member of Parliament Nii Lantey Vanderpuye after a joint military-police operation Tuesday dawn after some skirmishes in the constituency.
The former Sports Minister and parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress were picked up together his wife, daughter, and about fifteen other men who were with him in his residence over alleged shootings in the area.
The incumbent parliamentarian for the constituency was earlier reported to have had his hotel room broken into by police where he was working from and pumped tear gas into his room.
According to Nii Lante Vaderpuiye’s lawyer, Lesliw Anim, the MP was taken to the Central police station in Accra for further questioning into the matter as it was speculated the gunshots had come from his direction.
Reports indicated that the opposition New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate Nii Lante Bannerman’s men attacked him in his hotel but he [Vanderpuiye] rather was arrested.
Nevertheless, Mr. Vanderpuye has been declared the winner in that constituency.
Vanderpuye had polled a total of 40,502 votes as his closest contender Nii Lantey Bannerman managed a total of 34, 289 votes.
