Lucky Annan Ayisah, a calm looking but resilient golfer from Achimota Golf Club has won the 2020 Gold Fields PGA Golf Championship held at Damang, in the Western Region of Ghana.
Ayisah who won the competition for the first time started the championship very well by topping the leader board on day one, thrilling the third day leader by three shots, overturned the game on hole 15 making sure he pulled a score of five-under par (-5) over four days to open two strokes gape which he held on to win the flagship professional golf event in Ghana on Saturday.
Kojo Barnni who topped day three by leading Ayisah with two shots going into the last day but lost it on hole 15 which is par 4 where Kojo played 7 instead saw him finished second with three under course par.
Winner Lucky Ayisah said:
‘This is a very big thing to me because I’ve been working hard to win this tournament for the past 6 years.
‘My patron Emos Koblah is not playing well this year so I said to myself I have to be there.
‘Want to win the trophy and this trophy must go to Achimota so it’s always on my mind to win it.
‘The past winners have been doing their best but I said to myself that it’s time for Ayisah to win it.’
“‘ I did not just get up to win Gold Fields PGA Golf Championship but rather serious hard work went into this victory so i advise my younger colleagues to take their training seriously and respect their senior and take over because this is our time.
” I know it is extremely difficult to defend this Championship but I can assure the next winner that he must be a hard working person to take this glittering trophy from me because i am coming next year to defend it.
Emanuel Osei And Francis Torgah placed fourth and fifth with a Standard Scratch Score of 286 and 288 respectively.
Victor Brave Mensah continued his dominance in that division since the introduction of seniors by scoring 219 gross over three days whilst Tournament Director Akwesi Prempeh came second with SSS 234 for three days.
The 7th Edition of the PGA Golf Championship ended successfully with much more interesting display as leader board kept charging from day one to the last with three golfers from different golf clubs till final day.
This year’s edition had no foreign based golfers due to Covid-19 pandemic preventing the defending champion Christopher Francis who is a Nigeria attendance.
