Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Tournament Director Akwesi Prempeh has lauded Goldfields for making the 7th Edition of the Gold Fields PGA Championship come off despite the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The 7th edition of the annual PGA Golf Championship teed off on (Wednesday) at Damang Golf Course in Tarkwa.
According to Akwesi Prempeh, had it not been for the love Gold Fields have for Golf in Ghana, the tournament would not have come on.
‘This Is the 7th edition of the Championship and I would like all golfers here to give a very big applaud to the Gold Fields especially Hans de Beer, Mr. Alfred Baku, Rodger Adamah, the captain Derrick Amoahquah Mensah and all the managers in Tarkwa Damang have all done a great job.
‘I remember when I approached them about this year’s competition it’s appeared it would not come off but Gold Fields did everything within their power and here we are to play the championship.
‘Because of the love they have for golf in Ghana, this year’s edition is on. This is marvelous.’’
He also cautioned all golfers to stick to the rules of the game and stay professional in their play.
‘Sometimes when the game is getting tough, there’s are decisions which may overtake you.
‘I want every golfer to remember that being a professional means u know the rules of the game well so when things are getting tough take it easy and stay professional in your play because that is why you are here.
‘I thank you all and may the best player win. Wish you all the best.’
32 Ghanaian based golf players consisting of 24 regulars and eight senior players started the competition with promising to hope for the best.
The four-day tournament is expected to end on Saturday with the winner of the regular category taking home GHS40,000.00 whilst the winner of the senior will pocket GhS9,0000.00.
