A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Karaga Constituency has gunned down a colleague at Yung in the Karaga district of the Northern Region.
According to reports, the suspect who is currently on the run went to the community with a tricycle to return some canopies and chairs that were used for an event.
On his way, the suspect is said to have spotted a pistol he had concealed on the side of his trousers and started playing with him but while removing the arm, it discharged hitting the other at close range.
The victim now deceased was immediately rushed to the Yung Clinic and later to Karaga Hospital but he, unfortunately, could not make it.
This is one of the many blood sheds the party has experienced in barely a fortnight after some 6 persons were butchered at Sung, Karaga and Yung all in the Karaga District of the Northern Region following a confusion broke out at a National Democratic Congress (NDC) rally.
The victims identified as Zakaria Aminu, Sulemana Musah, Abdulai Aminu, Haruna Abdulai, Musah Abdul Razak and Tia Abdul Rahman. Who suffered machete wounds are currently at the Karaga Hospital receiving treatment.
The incident is said to have sparked tension in the area because of chieftaincy controversy.
Karaga District Police Commander, ASP Thomas Tulasi revealed that an official complaint has been filed with his outfit and statements from some of the victims have been taken.
ASP Thomas added that a rally was held at Sung which is a stronghold of the governing NPP where several persons were bused to the community amidst the display by motor riders clad in NDC t-shirts.
The Motor riders believed to be members of the NDC in a convoy, reportedly rode to an NPP pavilion sparking the confusion leading to the reprisal attacks after a known NPP member questioned the rationale behind their action.
This was said to have escalated the tension in the area with targeted persons attacked in their homes and left with fractures among other injuries.
