The Nigerian Army says it has arrested the soldier who recorded a video begging his colleagues not to shoot at #EndSARS protesters.
The soldier now identified as Lance Corporal Harrison Friday wore a hood in a video he made in which he begged his colleagues not to shoot at end SARS protesters even if they were sent to do so.
In a post shared on its Twitter handle this morning October 21, the Nigerian Army says Harrison carried out ‘cybercrime’ and that he has now been arrested.
This comes after violent scenes have characterized #EndSARS protests yesterday after military men fired gunshots into a crowd of protesters killing at least 78 people and injuring a hundred more.
Protesters have for the past week been calling for the dissolution of Nigeria’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a special team associated with the Nigerian Police Service, which is known for using very violent and inhumane means in carrying out their mandate.
The protests have spread like wildfire to other States in the country and even to other West African States like Ghana.
It has also attracted the participation of scores of celebrities and renowned personalities across the world. Among these include; Jennifer Lopez, Lydia Forson, Hillary Clinton, Beyoncé, Jack Dorsey, Shatta Wale, and several others.
Protesters are now demanding the summary resignation of Mr. Mohammadu Buhari as President of the Federal Republic, blaming him for the numerous challenges the oil-rich country is facing.
