Arsenal has reportedly dropped out of the race to sign Ghanaian international Thomas Partey.
The Gunners will not pursue the Atletico Madrid’s midfielder despite reports in Italy claiming that the North London club have a £43.5 million “offer on the table”.
Reports earlier this week suggested that Arsenal were ready to trigger the 26-year-old’s release clause at Atletico Madrid, but the club’s current financial situation due to the coronavirus pandemic has ruled them out of the race.
The English Premier League season has been halted indefinitely due to the pandemic which has as of Tuesday claimed more than 126,000 lives worldwide.
Partey, who has attracted attention from several clubs across Europe following his consistent run of form for Atletico Madrid is contracted to the Spanish club until 2023.
Atletico is said to have offered Partey a new deal in recent months, but the midfielder is still considering his future.
Partey has scored three goals in 35 appearances across all competitions this season as he continues to establish himself as an important figure in Diego Simeone’s squad.
